The West Coast and beautiful scenery go hand-in-hand with great accommodation and Kapitea Ridge is a prime example. Set on an elevated position overlooking the ocean approximately half way between Greymouth and Hokitika it is in a perfect spot and the views extraordinary.
The lodge was purpose-built, with no compromise on guest comfort. All rooms are finished to a high standard of fittings and furnishings, each with its own personality, most having a balcony from where you can enjoy a wine at sunset. The spacious lounge has a log fire and the dining room is in the sun-filled conservatory.
Our hosts Doreen and Geoff have had a lifestyle change and enjoy sharing their knowledge of the coast with guests. We had pre-arranged a snack on arrival and Doreen was happy to provide a lovely selection of cheeses and condiments which we enjoyed in the manicured native garden listening to birdsong, a welcome break from travel and the numerous cafés in this area. A covered spa pool just a few metres from the lodge in native ferns was a superb place to unwind and depending on the weather, you can hear the ocean crashing against the shore.
Kapitea Ridge is in a great central location and it is just a few hours drive to almost all of the attractions of this area, Punakaiki, Franz Josef Glacier Shantytown to name a few and just 20 minutes to the Jade, art centres and restaurants of Hokitika. West Coast life starts right here.
