Nestled on the seafront is the ultimate, private, romantic retreat that is Guthrie Cottage. A favourite with anniversary couples the cottage is a true haven. Its serene atmosphere makes it a perfect luxurious destination and proximity to the capital city is an added advantage.
With uninterrupted views of Wellington Harbour, both from the front windows of the sitting room and master bedroom, and from the exquisitely romantic sunken bath in the front garden, the sea is able to work its magic immediately. In fact, as if by design, a sizeable pod of dolphins passed as we gazed out to sea.
The superbly equipped kitchen allows guests to choose their style of retreat, nearby restaurants offer excellent choices or if so desired a chef can be arranged.
The house has been in the Guthrie family since the 1950s and has all the charm of a seaside bach with all the sophistication of a five star lodge. Underfloor heating makes the cottage a cosy retreat in all seasons and blackout curtains allow for uninterrupted sleep. The absence of auto traffic adds to the peace and tranquility of this little gem.
An extremely comprehensive compendium supplies all the information one could possible need about the cottage and the area but the hosts are always available for advice or assistance, a glorious balance of service and unobtrusiveness. They are happy to provision the cottage on request.
A comment in the guest book sums it up 'so beautiful we didn't want to leave'. However when the inevitable happens one couldn't fail to leave relaxed and refreshed. Special rates can be negotiated for longer stays.
