High up on the hills surrounding Hokitika is Stations Inn. This is a place of history as it is situated on the original Blur Spur Goldfields, where Stations Hotel was in the 1860's. In those days the area housed 3000 miners.
Today Stations Inn is an elegant and much more restful place. The views of the surrounding Southern Alps and out to the Tasman Sea are awe inspiring. Our hosts Glenda and Hugh Little who established the property in 2004 showed us to our gorgeous spacious room. The décor is well chosen, reflecting heritage colours of yesteryear and locally made furniture. Our bathroom is inviting, one of 4 which offer a large spa bath - perfect for relaxing after tramping the local bush walks.
Hokitika is ideally situated to explore West Coast's attractions. A very picturesque drive north will have you at Punakaiki and travelling south to Franz Josef takes you through more beautiful scenery. We choose to explore the surrounding walks and the arts and craft centers of Hokitika.
There was time to relax on the patio with a glass of wine watching the sun go down before adjourning to the restaurant and bar .This award winning restaurant is a must visit, its food and views are stunning and in the winter there is a cosy fire to warm any chills.
Stations Inn is the perfect stopover on the West Coast to stay a few days whether to explore or rejuvenate from the bustle of travel and Glenda and Hugh will make you most welcome.
