The drive to the West Coast is dramatic, and turning into the welcoming lights of Westwood Lodge was a satisfying end to the day. It wasn't long before we were relaxing in the lounge in front of the impressive fireplace with our hosts Jacquie and Richard enjoying a welcoming drink. We swapped stories about our day and were then shown our room.
Westwood Lodge has three suites in the main house and there are six coach house suites. The warmth of natural timber throughout reflects the New Zealand West Coast forest environment and the contemporary furnishings are complemented by artworks from inspired New Zealand artist, Melanie Hammett.
The Main House suites all feature stunning relaxing French tubs. We eyed this up for later, made sure the champagne was on hand and headed into the village a mere three minutes drive away to a restaurant that Jacquie and Richard had recommended.
The morning dawned to reveal the native gardens melding into the most spectacular views of the mountains and glacier. Following a superb breakfast a glacier visit was in order, alternatively we could have made a visit to Hukawai, the indoor ice climbing wall to test skills or we could have relaxed with a book from the library or played pool.
Westwood Lodge, perfect for the romantic holiday can also cater for that special breakaway for business teams. Nothing was a problem.
