Purpose-built in the centre of Wanaka, this boutique hotel is proving a quiet and popular choice for travellers. Murray and Lyn welcomed me and explained that they had their own accommodation, so that I could see as little or as much of them as I wanted. I was shown the inviting guest lounge where there is a television, cosy couches, small library and a fireplace that made me wish it was winter. Drinks are offered here in the evening. All the bedrooms are comfortably appointed and immaculate, with brocade duvets on the beds. Many have outlooks to the garden or the lake and mountains. Our view also incorporated the stream that wells up from a natural spring and winds through the garden where, in one corner, there is a luxurious spa house. Breakfast in a sunny room, or on the deck, was a lavish affair and pleasantly social with plenty of variety to cater for different tastes. I had a very early start and Murray and Lyn could not have been more warm and accommodating. Afternoon tea with scones was also served everyday in the breakfast room, as part of the tariff. The lodge has a separate well-appointed small office where guests are able to access a good information system.
