Although the Stone Cottage is just a short drive from Wanaka, I could easily have imagined I was marooned on an island. The proximity to the lake and the magnificent view are important features of staying here. The view extends across the lake to Treble Cone ski field and, if the timing is right, you might be able to lie in bed at night and see the lights of the snow groomers on the mountains in the distance.
The two suites occupy the upper level of Belinda's home and are accessed independently by staircases at each end of the building. The larger suite has more substantial facilities, such as a full stove, and French doors leading to a balcony taking full advantage of the view. The smaller suite is newer; it also takes in the views and has an outdoor table and chairs on the landing - great for an alfresco breakfast.
If you're are travelling on your own opt for the smaller suite; with others in tow, an adjoining door can be opened to create a 'super-suite', with loads of living space.
Belinda loves to 'play' in the kitchen so you would be well advised to eat in. A visitor from Hong Kong wrote: 'So there is a heaven on earth! The silence and solitude are unbelievable. Thanks a million.'
