Braemar Farmstay

Braemar Farmstay is an easy ten minute drive from Invercargill centre and a chance to get up close and personal to a true working farm and cut flower grower. I was warmly greeted by our host, Jean, a keen gardener, bowler and a Guilds qualified chef which explains why the wide range of preserved fruits, pickles, jams and home-style biscuits she produces are so delicious. These are sold in the farm shop located on the property.

I was delighted to discover the beautifully scented flowers and delicious array of produce available. Guests are treated to a generous selection of these goodies during their stay; the jams are served with a substantial country-style cooked breakfast complete with home grown bacon and tomatoes, which is complimented by a picture view across the gardens and surrounding farmland.

I thoroughly enjoyed wandering over the property, viewing the gardens and flower hot-houses; meeting the wide variety of animals on the farm. I encourage you to have a carrot or treat on hand for the pet donkey "Small One". Jean is always available and willing to provide a guided tour.

Accommodation at Braemar Farmstay is homely and comfortable, Jean, a true Southerner with Scottish heritage, is well travelled and most hospitable, ensures a very pleasant stay. The farm is well located for taking in the surrounding area and Jean is knowledgeable of its history, as well as activities and dining options available in the region.
