The view from the deck defies description. Because the five self-contained units are elevated just above beautiful Coopers Beach, the outlook from two units is unobstructed across Doubtless Bay. The other units have fabulous sea views through the impressive Pohutukawa trees.
The two bedroom units are independent and tastefully furnished, each with its own deck leading off the lounge and lower bedroom. The main feature of Beach Lodge is its magnificent location, yet the facilities deserve a special mention.
My unit, as all the others had recently been totally refurbished, with a full kitchen complete with large fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, wall oven, hob and quality crockery and glasses. Some nights I preferred to eat at my favourite fish-and-chip shop, five minutes away in Mangonui.
I was there in summer and I lazed on the deck, enjoying a G&T with Margaret who is a fabulous host. Indoors was cooled by air conditioning, the heat pump would keep the place warm in cooler months. In winter it would be great to cocoon myself in this self-indulgent luxury in front of the 50-channel cable television.
I found Beach Lodge the perfect place to relax. At night, I was lulled to sleep by the sound of lapping water just a few meters away.
