Russell, steeped in history, is a picturesque town in the world-renowned Bay of Islands. Flagstaff Lodge & Day Spa, a 1912 villa situated in the heart of Russell is a part of this history, offering luxury accommodation for a maximum of 8 people.
The four spacious rooms each have a distinctive New Zealand theme and are furnished with the most exquisite fabrics and paint finishes. There is the Pacific, Pohutukawa, Sunset and the Strand. I stepped into my room; the Sunset room and was wowed by its rich, bold colours and a beautiful original flax cloak artwork inspired by Maori design. Drop dead gorgeous to say the least.
It wasn't long before I joined our hosts in the guest lounge for evening drinks before taking the 100 metre stroll to the waterfront to enjoy the cafés and galleries.
Russell is the perfect place to stop and explore. There are fishing charters, swimming with the dolphins, golf, historic trails and wonderful art galleries to name but a few activities. You could also curl up and read or take in a DVD in front of the fire however I had booked a massage at the in-house spa for the late afternoon. The range of treatments by professional therapists is vast using the very best of products. Relax under the stars with champagne in the matching French baths.
Flagstaff Lodge has it all and if it is pampering that you want then you have come to the right place.
