Waihi Beach Lodge is an easy two-hour, scenic drive south of Auckland. Ali and Greg have created this new bed and breakfast 'beach getaway', which is located on the main road running parallel to the beach. It is a perfect place to stay for anyone wishing to explore the eastern coastline of the North Island, or for those who simply want to escape the city.
The Beach Suite, on the ground floor at the rear of the house, is a beautifully decorated, studio-style unit. It has a queen-size bed, a pull-out couch, a dining table, television and DVD. There's also a small kitchenette, laundry and ensuite bathroom.
There are also three guestrooms with ensuites, king-size beds, DVDs, televisions, and tea/coffee making facilities. All rooms have doors leading out to their very own private sun drenched terraced areas, great for reading a book or just relaxing with a glass of wine enjoying the views of Mayor Island, the Pacific Ocean and listening to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. Breakfast is served upstairs in the dining room or al fresco on one of the patios.
After a weekend at Waihi Beach Lodge, the beach walks, fishing, exploring the eastern coastline, and great breakfasts, I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
