If it is peace and solitude and a break from city life that is on your agenda then Slipper Island Resort, an island just off the coast of the Coromandel Peninsula must certainly be the panacea.
The only way to get to Slippper Island is by water taxi or private plane. Either way, the approach to the island is one that promises much in the way of days relaxing in the sun, swimming in the crystal clear, turquoise waters and glorious white sand beaches.
The resort consists of 4 individual chalets, 2 with two bedrooms and 2 with studio accommodation. They have a lovely beach feel, with kitchens, out-side verandahs, BBQ's and their own private garden. Hosts Gordon and Barbara have a home a short walk away and are there to help with any requirement. Be sure to bring, food, wine, swimming gear and a great book for Slipper Island is all about relaxation, there are no cafés, stores or nightclubs although I am sure you could most certainly enjoy a sing-along around a camp fire if you are traveling with friends. A trek up over the farmland to the almost vertical drop at the top is well worth the effort, the views are unsurpassed - back across to Tairua one way and out down the coast to the Bay of Plenty and White Island the other.
This is what holidays are made of, a back to nature retreat on a private island, an Eco friendly resort in an area of un-spoilt and remarkable beauty, quite simply bliss.
