Glacier Rock Gallery B&B

Summer or winter, snow-covered or golden yellow, the dramatic mountains and brilliant turquoise lake make a spectacular backdrop for Glacier Rock Gallery & Bed and Breakfast. Nestled on the shores of Lake Tekapo this beautifully designed home was built on sustainability principles by its architect owner, Colin, who together with wife Chris ensured our stay in the picturesque heart of Mackenzie High Country was memorable.

Driving from Christchurch or Queenstown, it is a scenic 3 hours to Glacier Rock, our destination for the next few days and the perfect base to explore the abundance of local sights and Mt Cook. Colin enjoys the great outdoors, mountain biking, kayaking and has climbed many of the peaks in the vicinity.

Just as dramatic as the scenery is the striking design of this home, in complete harmony with its surrounds. Tasteful interiors, Colin's original watercolours and spectacular views feature throughout, with both accommodation rooms having independent access to a sunny patio and lounge/breakfast room. It was from here that Chris served our delicious breakfast of fresh homemade bread, yoghurt and muesli. After a day's exploring nothing was better than to enjoy drinks on the patio, an ideal platform to also marvel the night sky.

Colin's paintings and examples of Chris's weavings are displayed in the gallery to view or purchase. Chris also writes articles on the history of Lake Tekapo for the local paper.
