Marchmont Gardens

Hanmer Springs is one of the jewels of the South Island and driving towards the hills there is a sense of anticipation. It is easy to find Marchmont Gardens, ideally located down a driveway within walking distance of the famous hot springs.

We are greeted by Bindy and Peter and shown to our purpose built, very spacious studio unit. One of two situated in a beautiful garden setting. Each has its own parking area, entrance and outdoor patio. They are tastefully furnished with sumptuous linens and modern artworks in keeping with the mountain resort atmosphere. The modern kitchenette is perfect for preparing a snack.

The range of activities in this area is exhausting- walk to the first tee of the adjacent golf course, don your walking boots and head to Conical Hill for the most spectacular view of North Canterbury and no visit to Hanmer is complete without the legendary spa. A more leisurely day would be to simply relax in the outstanding gardens then join Peter and Bindy for a late afternoon drink before heading into the village to try one of the many great restaurants. Their recommendations proved to be excellent.

A highlight though must be the fabulous breakfast served, either cooked specialties or fresh fruit, exceptional home made muesli and accompanied by the most beautiful preserves. A gourmet treat.

Marchmont Gardens is the perfect golf retreat for two couples and the hosts truly wonderful people.
