This was described as a self-contained heritage cottage built in the 1870's, recently refurbished, and offering a delightful combination of classic and colonial charm and modern comforts. I felt that was pretty accurate. When I entered through the classical front door, I immediately felt I had escaped to a peaceful hideaway in the city. I was aware of the city but relaxed and wandered through the open plan dining kitchen area into the sunny courtyard garden. Springfield Cottage is ideal for a romantic getaway in the center of an exciting and busy city. Restaurants and cafes are in abundance a short drive away, or you can gather delicious fare from the deli in Merivale and relax under the umbrella in the privacy of the courtyard. Provisions can be provided for cooked and continental breakfasts with a bottle of local wine and a fruit-and-cheese platter there for you on your arrival. How I wanted to stay for a day or two but I had work to do. I will be very happy to return and felt that if I could have spent a few days here, it would soon feel like home.
