Hadleigh Heritage Home

I love places that are full of character and history. This home, which is one of this country's best examples of the Arts and Crafts architectural style has been restored to the standard it deserves and is sympathetically furnished with a great deal of care.

The four guest suites (two of which have two bedrooms) all have private bathrooms, comfortable seating, televisions, complimentary port and fresh flowers. They are spacious and well appointed. There is a small guest kitchen on the same level, where we could have made a light meal. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary beverages and snacks.

Jon and Shirley asked me to join them in the gracious sitting room, with its lattice bay windows overlooking the garden, for a drink before I went out for dinner. Jon has a specialised interest in Porsche racing and in order to house his three-car collection a facility of 150 square metres has been added to the house.

I was welcome to explore the extensive gardens, to hone my skills in the billiard room, play the piano and peruse the small library.

In the morning a full English-style breakfast was served with strawberries and peaches fresh from the potage garden.
