As we turn into the liquidamber lined driveway the front entrance of the imposing Georgian style house beckons us in. Nestled in five hectares of formal garden, established trees and farmland the house looks for all the world as if it has always been there.
Welcomed into the house by charming and caring hosts, Gerard and Diane and their Belgian Shepherd, Wolf, we feel immediately comfortable. The Ambers is full of treasures, many mementos of travels in Africa. The formal dining room and lounge are at the disposal of guests throughout their stay, as is the study/library where guests have access to the internet and a laptop should they require it.
Upstairs on the first floor are two romantic guest bedrooms, each with a spacious ensuite bathroom. In the attic another large bedroom, a stunning bathroom complete with clawfoot bath and a twin bedroom with adjoining children's accommodation.
Across a cobbled courtyard, perfect for outdoor breakfasts, is a self contained cottage with a distinct Italian flair. Breakfast, served at the guests convenience, is a special occasion at the Ambers with fresh fruit platters garnished with flowers, followed by a full cooked English breakfast complete with hash browns. At the end of the day there is complimentary wine before guests explore nearby Orewa's cafes and restaurants for dinner.
So conveniently close to Auckland City, The Ambers is a perfect destination for a romantic tryst or as a base from which to explore the region.
